What I ask for is what I deserve
Life for me is already very tough..... with multiple surgeries, physiotherapy sessions and whole lot of exams to deal with. I don’t know why people are trying to make it tougher by being insensitive. I have Cerebral Palsy and I need help of a number of people to do things. These things also include a good scribe to write my exam while I dictate the answers. Is that too much to ask for? I work so hard for each exam and people judge me by my physical capacity and provide me with mediocre services.
Recently I wrote my B.A Final Year exams at a centre allotted to us and the very first day I had the worst experience of my life. They provided me with a telugu medium scribe for an exam that was to be written in English. When I questioned this I was told that providing a postgraduate was more than what I could ask for and that I shouldn’t be complaining. I want them to know that what I want is a person who knows English irrespective of whether she’s from school or a postgraduate. A person who does not know English will definitely decrease the quality of my answers in spite of being a postgraduate. What I mean is what’s the use of even a post graduate if she cant write what I tell her?
I faced a similar situation during my first year exams at the same centre. Only that time the problem was not the scribe but some extra time I asked for. People must understand that recollecting and dictating an answer takes longer than writing it yourself. Somehow people think otherwise and when asked for an extra half hour I was accused of over expectation! The worse part is when my mother went to request for the same she was told that she is working too hard for a person who cant go beyond clearing an exam with minimum marks. To this I want to tell them that i have been the topper in Psychology in my first year and Sociology in second year. I don’t want be bragging about myself but looks like this is the only way to let people know. A wise man once said if you have to judge people, judge them based on what they can do not on what they cannot. I hope a day will come when people start taking this message seriously!
