Beyond Ramayana

How did the epic Ramayana end? 

Is the truth only what we see in the movies? 

What did Lord Rama do after the death of his beloved Sita?

These are some questions that lie unanswered in all our minds. 

Let us explore those roads of this epic, that lead us to untold stories of Lord Rama. 

It is known to all that after the Agni Pariksha, 
Goddess Sita gave herself to Bhudevi. 

The last thing we know about Ramayana is that Lord Rama returns 

to Ayodhya, with his twin sons Luv and Kush.

Mythology takes the story further narrating how 
Lord Rama lived thereafter. 

It is said that the Lord fulfilled all responsibilities of an ideal King and 

also trained the future Kings to be good rulers. 

While Lord Rama continues to fulfill his duties in this manner, 

Kaala Deva [God of Time] calls upon him. 

He asks the Lord for some private time 
for a confidential conversation. 

Obeying the orders of Kaala Deva, Lord Rama asks his brother Lakshmana 

to prevent anyone from disturbing the two. 

Lakshmana does as told and he successfully prevents anyone from 

entering the room where Lord Rama and Kaala are sitting. 

But one day, Rishi Durvasa comes and demands to enter the room.

Though Lakshmana tries to explain the situation, 

Rishi Durvasa known for his bad temper, threatens to curse Lakshmana. 

Unable to disobey his elder brother or save himself from the curse, 

Lakshmana finds himself in a fix. 

Thinking a little upon this, he realizes that this is an indication to take the 

final way out. 

Realizing this, 

Lakshmana goes into the Sarayu River and accepts the form of Ananta Sesha.

Meanwhile, Kaala Deva reminds Lord Rama that 

his incarnation as Srirama has come to an end 

and that he should leave the world now. Upon realizing this and learning about Lakshmana, 

Lord Rama also walks into River Sarayu after promising to his people that 

he will return again. 

Thus ended the Ram Avatar.

After this Lord Vishnu reappeared at the same spot and blessed the people as promised. 

This is the actual end of Ramayana.
